"Morning"

A simile is a phrase that compares one thing to another using the words “like” or “as”. “Morning” is a poem written by Billy Collins that has an ideal example of a simile:

“and the lawn steaming like a horse
in the early morning.”(Collins 20-21)

Rationale for selection:
I chose this example from "Morning" because I think it gives a very good image; never before had I compared to the morning fog rising over the dewy grass to a sweating horse. It allows me to see what he is trying to say through a short, eleven-word sentence, which is the whole purpose of a simile. He talks about how mornings are underestimated times of the day and something we should enjoy the most, which I completely agree with.
